Holocene lake primary productivity reconstruction based on the sediment spectroscopy from northeastern Asia

Climate-induced harmful algal blooms are increasingly affecting temperate regions worldwide, posing serious threats to water quality and aquatic ecosystem health. However, the mechanisms underlying multi-forcing interaction remain controversial, largely due to a lack of long-term records of algal productivity. Here, we reconstructed the algal productivity in a temperate lake over the Holocene using algae-derived sediment organic matter flux quantified by the Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy technique. In further, we compared these with regional climatic records. Our results reveal consistently high primary productivity during multiple cooling episodes, which aligns with variations of regional precipitation. This dataset includes the Holocene algal productivity results from Lake Tuofengling and the related precipitation and temperature records from adjacent Lake sediments.
