Mango leaves are rich source of calcium, magnesium, nitrogen, phosphorous and some other trace elements. Therefore, leaf litter accumulation in mango orchard is a potential source of soil nutrients and organic matter, but farmers recognize it as waste material that needs to be discarded from the system. Composting of mango leaves is a beneficial preposition from environmental as well as soil fertility point of view. It takes 120 to 150 days for composting of leaves. Metagenomic analysis at species level of the mango leaf compost indicated that 3% of OTUs (Operational Taxonomic Unit) were assigned to unassigned species with in chitinophagaceae family.
