Chilean Political Landscape Dataset (CPLD)

The Chilean Political Landscape Dataset (CPLD) compiles district-level indicators of electoral competition, party system structure, and institutional design across multiple decades of Chile’s democratic experience. The dataset integrates electoral, institutional, and demographic variables to facilitate comparative and longitudinal analyses of Chile’s evolving political landscape. The dataset and accompanying codebook were constructed and tested using R (version 4.2.3) under macOS 15.4.1, employing the packages codebookr, dplyr, tidyr, readxl, and officer. All variable-level metadata were automatically generated to ensure reproducibility and internal consistency. This dataset accompanies the article “Decades of democracy: Insights into the political landscape of Chile” (Bunker, 2025, Humanities and Social Sciences Communications, https://doi.org/10.1057/s41599-025-06180-1). Future versions will be uploaded to Harvard Dataverse as new data become available, without prior notice.
