Improving the Efficiency of Urea Based Fertilisers

Fertilisers, including urea are vital for growing food but much of the nitrogen they provide is lost, causing environmental damage and increasing costs. This research looked for smarter, more sustainable fertilisers that release nitrogen more efficiently. Two new ideas were tested: 1) combination of urea with another component to slow its breakdown and 2) coating urea with a plant based materials. New technologies slowed nitrogen release in water and soil. This work highlights practical and sustainable ways to improve nitrogen use while reducing environmental harm.
