#Observa opinion polls: #---------------------- # #From 1967 and onwards Observa (from 1990 GfK Danmark) has carried out a number of opinion polls, i.e. surveys of attitudes and habits of life, partly through so-called political index polls (postal panel surveys) and partly through more extensive attitudinal surveys based on interviews. The political index polls have been carried out regularly in the period (approx. 10 times a year), whereas the attitudinal surveys have been carried out quarterly in the period 1969 to 1972. The current data collection of similar data material over a long period of time makes it possible to carry out various kinds of time series analyses, especially as regards party preference. #Other subjects are usually treated more superficially owing to the conditions under which the surveys are carried out (they are designed for publication in daily papers so the main emphasis has been put on topical issues, and only subjects which may be dealt with by means of a limited number of questions are included). #Until 1971 the political index polls were carried out for the daily paper Aktuelt; from 1972 for the daily paper Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten. The attitudinal surveys have been carried out exclusively for Jyllands-Posten. # # #Observa Political Index Polls, 1991: #------------------------------------ #In 1991 GfK Danmark carried out 10 political index polls. All the questions from these surveys, together with a fixed set of recurring background variables, are found in DDA-1980: Observa Political Index Polls, 1991. In addition, the individual political index polls, which contain various questions on topical issues, are found in DDA-1981 to DDA-1990. # #This survey (DDA-1985 Observa Political Index Polls 1991: May) deals with the following topical issues: # #Party preference; how the respondent would react in a number of situations which require 'intervention' and personal courage; dwelling preference; smoking habits; attitude to the future role of the USA in NATO and in the defence of Europe; first meeting with spouse/cohabitant; the responsibility of Danish trade and industry in various fields (e.g. environmental matters/pollution, the introduction of new technology); attitude to the minimum/maximum penalties for violation of the Environment Act; assessment of the counties and municipalities as environmental supervisers; attitude to the use of mosquito poison; purchase in second-hand shops; important factors for getting a first impression of another person; attitude to the use of firearm by the police in connection with kidnapping/hostage taking; assessment of a number of things on an 'in'-'out' barometer; assessment of the Government's policies in a number of fields; family traditions; assessment of young people's attitude to life compared with young people a generation ago; important factors for personal style and identity; the influence of bank mergers on the situation of the customers; the correlation between smoking and cancer; animals in the household; assessment of subjects of debate which may agitate the public mind; morning habits; assessment of the pace of the coming into being of the Single European Market; and assessment of whether a number of persons are qualified for the post as prime minister
