Speed data recorded in the A-8 highway in Basauri (Bizkaia, Spain) during the roadworks in the Malmasin tunnel in April 2024

Speed data were recorded during the roadworks conducted in the Malmasin tunnel in the A-8 freeway in Basauri (Bizkaia, Spain) in April 2024. One tunnel was closed due to pavement rehabilitation works and the traffic in that direction was diverted to the other carriageway. As a consequence, the two-lane carriageway was shared by both direction, with one lane per direction and separated by cones in the middle. Data were collected in two points: Point 1 (P1), located 100 m before the returning chicane to the original carriageway and Point 2 (P2), located 50 m before the returning chicane to the original carriageway. Two phases were established. In Phase 1, the vertical and horizontal signage was implemented according to the Spanish standards. In Phase 2, a speed monitoring display (SMD) was installed at Point 1, indicating vehicles' speed and allerting about the difficult chicane. The dataset corresponds to the registered speed data.
