Influence of Metformin on the Intestinal Microbiome of Brown Trouts

Gut microbiome analyses were performed with juvenile brown trouts to study the impact of the anti-diabetic pharmaceuticum metformin. The juvenile fishes, 8 weeks post yolk sac consumption old, were exposed to metformin in concentrations from 0, 1, 10 , and 1000 µg/L. Especially the lower metformin concentrations corresponded with environmental data from surface waters containing percentages of conditioned wastewaters from municipal wastewater treatment plants
