Report on an investigation into indigo dyeing in Sori

English and French transcription of an informal enquiry made with a witness of the dyeing activity, the blacksmith BIK. He tells what he knows about this activity that has disappeared several decades ago. The workshop was located in Gourou, a village that is now abandoned. After emphasising that the workshop was always run by a Baatombu from the Manè clan, linked to the chiefdom, he briefly describes the stages of making the dye with Indigofera sp. leaves, the possible addition of Philenoptera cyanescens leaves to ‘strengthen’ the dye, then the methods of collecting the products to be dyed. He also provides a partial list of technical vocabulary.
