Biological aerobic treatment of persistent dyeing wastewater with manganese oxide

This project focuses on the biological aerobic treatment of recalcitrant dye wastewater using manganese oxides and the characterization of microbial communities involved in the process. A down-flow hanging sponge reactor was operated with activated sludge and manganese oxides to evaluate decolorization and degradation performance under aerobic conditions. To identify the microorganisms that preferentially contribute to dye degradation and manganese-mediated transformations, 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing was conducted. The results will provide insights into the key taxa enriched during the treatment process and their cooperative role in the removal of persistent dyes.
