This is **Volume 8** of the comprehensive *Buddhist Classics AI Translation Series*, featuring two major collections: **Sakya Collected Works** and **Tsongkhapa Complete Works**. ## About This Volume ### **1. Sakya Collected Works (萨迦法汇)** The **Sakya** (Sa skya, "Grey Earth") school is one of the four major schools of Tibetan Buddhism, founded in the 11th century by **Khön Könchok Gyalpo** (昆·贡却杰波, 1034-1102). The name derives from the grey-white soil of Sakya Monastery's location in Shigatse, Tibet. **Historical Significance**:- **13th-century zenith**: **Drogön Chögyal Phagpa** (八思巴·罗智坚赞, 1235-1280) served as **Imperial Preceptor** (*dishi*) under Kublai Khan, granting Sakya political-religious authority over Tibet (1260-1358)- **Five Core Teachings**: Lamdré (*lam 'bras*, "Path and Result"), Hevajra Tantra, Cakrasaṃvara, Mahāmudrā, Kālacakra- **Scholastic tradition**: Emphasized "sutra-tantra unity" (*mdo rgyud zung 'jug*) - integrating philosophical study with esoteric practice **Role in Tibetan Canon Development**:Sakya scholars played a pivotal role in compiling the **Kangyur** and **Tengyur**:- **Yuan Dynasty projects**: Organized large-scale translation and editorial work- **Standardization**: Established rigorous collation standards and terminology normalization, especially for tantric texts- **Manuscript preservation**: Sakya Monastery housed critical manuscripts used in later canonical editions- **Modern contributions**: Sakya scholars led editorial teams for the contemporary *Chinese Tripitaka* (Tibetan section) **This Collection as "Commentarial Treasury"**:Sakya works contain exceptionally rich **sūtra** and **tantra commentaries**, functioning as:- **Critical reviews** of Kangyur-Tengyur texts- **Early forms** of Tibetan scholastic genres- **New thematic developments** beyond Indian source materials **Logic and Epistemology**:Sakya *pramāṇa* (因明, Buddhist logic) texts exhibit modern-style analytical rigor:- **Consciousness analysis**: Detailed classifications of memory, perception, and logical inference (*vyāpti*, 周遍)- **Cognitive processes**: Systematic treatment of attention, reasoning, and metacognition - resonating with contemporary cognitive science- ***Vyāpti* (周遍, "pervasion")**: Central concept requiring absolute necessity between reason and thesis - **Strengths**: Philosophical depth, contemplative analysis of mental phenomena - **Limitations**: Binary logic (true/false), difficult to apply to probabilistic/fuzzy real-world phenomena - **Dialogue potential**: Combining traditional logic's contemplative precision with modern logic's empirical methods **Historical Connections with Chinese Buddhism**:- **Yuan Dynasty onwards**: Sakya-Han interactions via imperial court- **Cultural transmission**: *Yijinjing* (易筋经, "Muscle-Tendon Change Classic") health practices and *Shuilu* (水陆) / *Yuqie Yankou* (瑜伽焰口) liturgies linked to Sakya and Kagyu traditions **This Collection**:- **90 volumes, ~1,450 texts, ~38 million Chinese characters**- **26 categories**: Commentaries, logic treatises, ritual manuals, poetry- **Bilingual**: Chinese-English parallel translations- **Source**: Adarsha Digital Library --- ### **2. Tsongkhapa Complete Works (宗喀巴全集)** **Je Tsongkhapa Lobsang Drakpa** (宗喀巴·洛桑扎巴, 1357-1419) was a towering scholar whose works comprehensively systematized Tibetan Buddhist philosophy and practice. A special program was developed for this issue to perform electronic textual criticism and supplementary translation. Scattered revisions (0.n proportion) have been upgraded. Starting from November 22, 2025, the entire version group's cloud drive will no longer be replaced; updates will only be uploaded to the archive at https://huggingface.co/ospx1u. The latest versions may not be in the long-term link table and can only be found at https://huggingface.co/ospx1u — please check there yourself. In general, frequent upgrades for volumes 1-12 are fully listed at https://huggingface.co/datasets/ospx1u/buddhist-classics-vol1-12/tree/main. Buddhist Classics AI Translation Series December 01, 2025 ### Version 2.1 Notes Between November and December 2025, Chinese translations using the Claude 3.7 Sonnet version were created for all documents in Volume 8. At the same time, in accordance with the original plan, the complete works of Gorampa (which had been translated individually but not formally published) were added. This collection includes two sets in the Gemini 2.0 version, with one set translated using Claude 3.7 Sonnet. The complete works of Tsongkhapa also provide two sets of Gemini 2.0 Chinese-English translations, along with one Claude 3.7 Sonnet version. Additionally, the complete works of Jetsun Drakpa Gyaltsen (Victory Library edition, ten volumes), originally planned for Volume 12, have been incorporated as the ninth section of the Sakya volume (the ancient text new edition is in two volumes). Here, I must mention the regrettable parts: several joint editors of the translation series attempted to verify, download, and organize the following two collections that should have been included in this volume but were unsuccessful. These are mainly the Kadam Legbam (120-volume edition) and the complete works of Buton Rinchen Drub. The reasons are that the former is handwritten cursive script and the latter is xylographic prints, both currently impossible to OCR. Therefore, much of the content in this volume related to the great master Buton and Kadampa literature will have chronological gaps, and it will be impossible to verify the original texts or translations. This collection is relatively complete in Ming and Qing dynasty content, but in the period between the Song and Yuan dynasties — the era of translation and theoretical debates — due to the absence of these two representative collections (and possibly more), there will be many regrets in conceptual understanding. This is estimated to remain unrepairable for a long time. Gratitude to all colleagues who made efforts during this period. The release of this volume coincides with the memorial day of Sakya Pandita — paying respects to the many predecessors! Buddhist Classics AI Translation Series January 02, 2026
