资源简介:
The geological data sets for the Ford Ranges of western Marie Byrd
Land include:
- Structural measurements for minor brittle faults, fracture
arrays, and dike arrays
- 40Ar/39Ar geochronological data for mafic dikes and volcanic
rock samples
- Geochemical analyses (major, trace, and isotope) for Pleistocene
basalts
- Geological map of the Ford Ranges [includes revisions to USGS
maps A-6, A-7, A-11; Wade et al. 1977, 1978]
Data exist for nearly all mountain ranges and nunatak groups in the
Ford Ranges. All data are in Excel Worksheet format.
The geology data were collected during a joint geology/aerogeophysics
program designed to address questions of crustal structure and
tectonic development along the eastern Ross Sea margin. The objective
of the geological field research program, conducted during 1998-99 and
1999-2000, was kinematic analysis of mesoscopic structures, including
brittle faults and dikes, in the ice-covered region where major
structures are concealed. The purpose was to decipher the extensional
history of the region, and address hypotheses about the timing and
character of tectonism in the eastern Ross Sea sector.
