A single sample was collected from a depth of 45-65 cm in Backhoe Trench 4 on Project
560-021 in Fort Bliss, Texas. This backhoe trench sampled a playa lake, exposing at least 18
different thin layers or thick laminae. Pollen analysis of a single sample was undertaken to
determine the suitability of these deposits for interpretation of the paleoenvironmental record of
the playa lake represented.
