We report the draft genome sequence of a methicillin resistence strain of Staphylococcus aureus, designated M1. This clinical isolate was the index isolate of a large MRSA outbreak in the Copenhagen area from 2003 to 2009. The M1 strain is an ST8, spa type t024 and SCCmec type IVa The WGS of S. aureus strain M1 was determined by high-throughput sequencing, combining Roche GS FLX and Illumina HiSeq. 10 gaps in the sequence has been closed by PCR and Sanger sequencing.
