Relationship Between Radar Echo Tops, the Tropopause and Severe Local Weather Occurrences

Maybe the frequently quoted relationship between severe local weather and the penetration by radar echoes of the tropopause is not very useful. A reexamination of data available to Scientific Services suggests this indeed may be the case. We hope this Technical Attachment will kindle renewed interest in reviewing this relationship and will draw out additional information which will be helpful in severe local storm detection.
