The Canberra and Queanbeyan survey of health and well-being in later life aimed to determine the prevalence of depressive symptoms, depressive disorders, cognitive impairment and dementia in older Australians. Data was collected on men and women over 70 years of age living in the community and in aged care institutions. The Draft ICD-10 Diagnostic Criteria were employed to gather data and were assessed as a tool for research and use by aged care workers. Data were collected on physical health, social support, personality, mental activity and use of services. Background variables include age, sex, marital status, occupational status and education.
