The average Spanish consumed more than ten kilograms of fresh fish in 2017, which is a significant larger number amount than that of frozen fish, which stood at approximately 2.3 kilograms per person the same year. The most expensive crustaceans that Spaniards could purchase were prawns and shrimp, which cost on average 11 euros per kilogram in 2019. Mussels were much cheaper in contrast, at only 2.77 euros per kilogram that same year.
