资源简介:
This article explores the importance of needs-based material design in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses. In modern language education, it is no longer effective to use one standard set of materials for all learners. Instead, teaching resources should be developed based on the specific goals, professional requirements, and language levels of students. The study explains how needs analysis plays a central role in identifying learners’ expectations, target situations, and real-life communication demands. The article also discusses key principles of designing ESP materials, such as relevance, authenticity, flexibility, and learner-centeredness. It highlights how materials that reflect real-world contexts help students develop practical language skills that can be directly applied in their future careers. In addition, the role of teachers as material designers is examined, emphasizing their responsibility to adapt and create content that meets learners’ changing needs. Furthermore, the paper addresses common challenges in needs-based material development, including limited resources, time constraints, and lack of training. Possible solutions and practical recommendations are provided to support teachers in creating effective ESP materials. Overall, the article argues that needs-based design leads to more engaging, meaningful, and successful learning outcomes in ESP courses.
