Complete genomes of five Enterococcus faecium virulent phages targeting VRE isolates

Paris area wastewater samples were screened after enrichment for virulent phages targeting vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VREfm) isolates. Two siphoviruses (dArtagnan and Aramis), one podovirus (Athos) and one myovirus (Porthos) were isolated and characterized in detail at both genomic and phenotypic levels. An additional characterized siphovirus (Planchet) was recovered from a french pig virome sample. Raw reads data from the sequencing of the14 VREfm used to evaluate plaquing host range of the phages were also deposited. It was also the case for raw reads from the sequencing of four spontaneous bacterial mutants that resisted to Aramis and four other that resisted to Athos.
