A metagenomics study of the rumen virome of the sheep and the goat. gut metagenome

The rumen is an important complex ecosystem with microbes responsible for fermentation, nutrition and energy production in ruminants. A variety of viruses have been shown to exist in the rumen, of which this project sought to identify by developing a robust viral isolation and enrichment protocol and using high throughput sequencing (HTS). Most of the rumen viruses were phages, important in maintaining the rumen microbial populations under its carrying capacity.
