Characteristics of Adopted Children (01-01-1995-01-01-2013)

This component contains data on adopted children obtained from files that are built up using data from the Immigration and Naturalisation Service IND on migration motives and data from the Municipal Basic Administration GBA (derived data). More information on how to access the data: > https://www.cbs.nl/nl-nl/onze-diensten/maatwerk-en-microdata/microdata-zelf-onderzoek-doen ### Methodology This component contains data on adopted children obtained from files that are built up using data from the Immigration and Naturalisation Service IND on migration motives and data from the Municipal Basic Administration GBA (derived data). The database of data on adopted children has been compiled in a few steps as from the 1995 reporting year using data from the Immigration and Naturalisation Service IND on migration motives and data from the municipal Basic Administration GBA. The construction of a file of data on adopted children (ordinary adoptions) was initially based – per year of establishment – on the basis of the non-Dutch children who migrated to the Netherlands in the relevant year and who are known to have been the purpose of immigration. Since some of the children already have Dutch nationality upon entry (according to the Hague Adoption Convention) and are therefore not known to the IND, in the second step – per year of establishment – children under 12 years of age for whom apply that the date of entry into the family law relationship for both parents is later than the date of birth. A characteristic of a after all, adoption is that the legal relationship between parents and children only arises after birth. In addition, in this step, we select the children for whom the date of entry into family law employment of one parent the date of birth is later, while the date of birth of a second parent is not known. In the final step, the resulting file containing information about adopted children is compared with the IND’s migration motives file.
