Whole genome sequencing and the application of a SNP panel reveal primary evolutionary lineages and genomic diversity in the lion (Panthera leo)

In this study we sequenced the entire genomes of ten lions, distributed throughout their complete geographic range. These data were subsequently used to do variant calling and to create a SNP panel which was used for genotyping of more individuals. Phylogeographic data can contribute to conservation by informing prioritization and other management decisions. A leopard genome was added as an outgroup.
