Characterisation of Airway Metagenome in Severe Asthma

Asthma is the commonest chronic lung disease. Corticosteroid-resistant severe asthma carries greatest morbidity and lacks targeted therapies; emerging evidence implicates airways infection in stable disease (particularly H. influenzae). Previous asthma metagenomic studies lack adequate phenotyping and sequencing depth for bacterial species-level identification, in this study we address this through metagenomic sequencing using Oxford Nanopore to analyse airway samples collected from highly phenotyped severe asthmatics during stable disease.
