During operation, railway wheel steels experience thermo-mechanical stresses. Understanding how these stresses affect the microstructure is crucial to preventing failure.
In this experiment, we investigate the impact of temperature on the microstructure of ER7-grade (pearlitic steel) samples previously subjected to low-cycle fatigue. Through in situ annealing, we compare temperature effects at both the macro-scale, using Debye-Scherrer XRD ring acquisition, and the grain scale, employing dark-field X-ray microscopy.
