Diet diversity was analyzed by metabarcoding DNA extracted from gut contents of 3 species of mesopelagic salps collected in the NW Atlantic Ocean during the Summer of 2018 and 2019. Metabarcoding used V9 and V4 18S rRNA gene regions. Results include identifying prey groups and a new understanding of salp diet diversity and their role in the deep sea food webs.
