VPRS 11399 Enrolments for Government Schools Cards

These cards were created to provide statistical information on the number of pupils at each Victorian school for the years 1962 - 1979.Each of the enrolment cards has common information at the top of the card. This consists of the name and number of the school, the municipality that the school is located in, the Inspectorate area that the school is located in, and the school telephone number.For the years 1962 to 1971 the reverse side of the card simply lists the net enrolment figures, for each calendar year.The statistical information listed for the years 1972 to 1979 is more complex. This comprises the number of pupils for each calendar year, broken down by grades (1 to 6), boys, girls, and the totals by grade and calendar year.At the end of the main series of cards, there is another series of cards listing the schools in each municipality, arranged alphabetically by municipality. Each card lists the different schools (school name and number), under headings of primary schools, high schools, technical schools, special schools, and registered schools. This set of cards is not an index as such for the main series of cards, but each school listed on these cards should have a corresponding card in the main series.A third set of cards at the end of unit 4 is headed Municipality Developmental Information and simply lists the populations of all municipalities for the calendar years of 1954 - 1960. These cards would have been used to establish which shires required new schools and/or facilities for expanding populations.
