资源简介:
The aim of this study, carried out at the Dr René Puig Bentz Dental Clinic of the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña, was to evaluate the relationship between the suturing technique used, the incidence of suture iatrogenesis and the level of theoretical and practical knowledge of surgical procedures among dental students. A total of 278 surgical procedures performed by students at different clinical levels were analysed. The results showed that the most commonly used suturing technique was the simple suture (89.93%). Regarding sutural iatrogenies, the most common errors were tissue tearing, compression ischemia and perforation of anatomical structures. In terms of theoretical knowledge, most students presented a level classified as "fair" or "poor", suggesting deficiencies in their theoretical and practical training. Although no statistically significant correlation was found between the level of theoretical knowledge and the incidence of errors, the results suggest that knowledge and motor skills are crucial factors in the prevention of iatrogenic errors. The prevalence of errors such as tissue tears and perforations may be related to a lack of practical experience and the need for more intensive supervision in suturing. This study highlights the importance of improving the theoretical and practical training of students and the need to reinforce suturing techniques in dental education programs. It also highlights the importance of adequate clinical supervision in reducing surgical errors. The data suggests that although theoretical knowledge is essential, skill in technique and supervision are equally important in minimizing postoperative complications in patients.
