The primary goal of this study was to explore the viral diversity in local bee hives at 10 different localities in the northern Tigray region and identify potential unknown viruses associated with honey bee adults. The high-throughput sequencing exploration allowed to extend the study by screening abundant viral strains in Ethiopia and identification of novel viruses in adult worker bees, pupae and their pathogen varroa destructor.
