Recent research on the ontology of material cultural heritage has expanded to include cross-cultural exchanges within global consumption networks. However, there is still a paucity of studies examining how trade factors during China's early maritime prohibition period influenced the form of export ceramics. Few publications provide quantitative data supporting the social logic behind the evolution of export porcelain designs. This study employs morphological quantitative typological analysis to investigate the morphological characteristics of Chinese export porcelain bowls from the 14th to the 18th centuries, focusing on the cultural formation relationships underpinning their morphological evolution from the perspective of Cantonese merchant culture.
