The deprotonation of the imidazolium salt (PCPH)I (1) followed by a reaction with [CuI(PPh3)] results in the formation of the dinuclear complex [Cu2I2(PCP)] (2) in 92% yield. The crystal and molecular structural analysis of 2 shows the carbene donor in an extremely rare bridging mode between the two metal centers.
