VPRS 11309 Executive Committee Agenda and Minutes

Under the provisions of the Port of Melbourne Act 1978 (No. 9178) the Melbourne Harbor Trust Commissioners (VA 2799) was reconstituted as the Port of Melbourne Authority from 8 November 1978. The Executive Committee was established soon after with the first meeting of the Committee taking place in January 1979.The Executive Committee considered matters relating to the full spectrum of the Port of Melbourne Authoritys responsibilities. The minutes are succinct in their description of the deliberations of the Committee. The outcome of many agenda items was to refer the particular proposal to the Board for approval. The agenda papers often include copies of internal reports and general correspondence. The papers sometimes include notations.The composition of the Executive Committee altered over the life of the Authority. In the beginning, it comprised:- Chairman- Secretary- Chief Engineer- Harbour MasterThe Chief Planner attended for discussion of particular agenda items. Those items are indicated in the Minutes.By the end of 1987 the Executive Committee consisted of:- General Manager- General Manager, Development- General Manager, Operations- General Manager, Corporate Services- General Manager, Works- General Manager, Marketing- General Manager, Finance- General Manager, Human Resources- General Manager, Property.The composition of the Executive Committee at the time of its cessation included:- Chief Executive- General Manager, Technical and Commercial Services- General Manager, Finance and Administration- Company Secretary- Manager, Maintenance Services- Manager, Port Operations- Manager, World Trade Centre Development- Manager, Internal Audit and Review- Manager, Port Services.The last meeting of the Executive Committee was held on 21 February 1996. The Port of Melbourne Authority was dissolved under the Port Services Act 1995. Its successor agencies are- Melbourne Port Corporation- Melbourne Port Services- Victorian Channels Authority.
