In this study we perform the transcriptomic analysis of embryonic tissues involved in thymus formation. Using the chick-quail model, we identified thymus-forming potential in both non-canonical second PP (2PP) and canonical third/fourth pp (3/4PP) endoderm. We further identified the 3/4PA and ventral region of 2PA (2PAv) mesenchyme as positively regulate this potential, while the dorsal region of 2PA (2PAd) exerts inhibitory effects. The transcriptomes of 2PAv, 2PAd and 3/4PA mesenchyme were obtain from isolated tissues of chicken embryos with 2.5 days of development.
