资源简介:
This collection comprises images from an archaeological recording and watching brief at Helland Bridge, Hellandbridge, Cornwall. This work was undertaken by Cornwall Archaeological Unit (CAU) between January and October 2022. The bridge is a Grade I Listed Building which dates from the early 15th century and has long been regarded as an excellent example of medieval bridge building in Cornwall. Partial rebuilding of an area of walling on the western side of the bridge was necessary due to significant structural damage caused by a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) which crashed into the bridge in December 2021. Repair works were undertaken revealing that the parapet wall had clearly been rebuilt using lime mortar, presumably in the 19th century and that the walling below it is likely to date to the medieval period.
