Microbial communities on grapes have the potential to influence the organoleptic wine properties, contributing to a regional terroir. In recent years, a link has been establishing between quality and specificity of a wine with the environmental and viticultural effects that define its terroir. Here we used 16S rRNA and ITS high-throughput amplicon sequencing to characterize the bacterial and fungal taxonomic composition of microbial communities associated with grapevines, and evaluate some external effects (e.g. vintage, vineyard site, cultivar, soil physical and chemical parameters) and their interactions on the structure of the microbial communities.
