Classroom dataset and spreadsheets for "Teaching the Marginal Rate of Substitution Using the Human Development Index"

This repository contains the spreadsheet exercises and supporting data used in the paper “Teaching the Marginal Rate of Substitution Using the Human Development Index.” The materials allow users to replicate the calculation of HDI dimension indices and the marginal rate of substitution between longevity and income using UNDP data for 2021. The repository includes the Excel workbook used in the classroom exercises, which implements the standard geometric-mean HDI and an alternative aggregation method used to illustrate how different functional forms affect the implied tradeoffs.
