VPRS 15676 Details of Conifer Seedlings Raised in Government Nurseries

This series was created by the Plantation Branch of the Department of State Forests (Forest Commission) - VA 534.It consists of two sets of cards - Species Set and Nursery Set.Species Set is arranged alphabetically by species name. It includes following details:- species name- seed lot number- details of purchase, incl. date, weight and code number- seeds no / oz- germ. T no / oz- and despatch details incl. nursery name and amountNursery Set is arranged in chronological order by the year the seeds were sown. Within each year, the cards are arranged in roughly alphabetical order by the nursery and lot number. This appears to have been an intended order and the current arrangement is most probably a result of improper handling of the cards over the years.Nursery cards were raised as soon as the seeds were despatched and recorded the process of raising the seeds / seedlings over the period of three to four years based on the information provided by the government nurseries. Some of the cards are incomplete or blank.Information in the Nursery Set included:- nursery name- species- seed lot number- date and weight sown- germination and seed raising details- class of stock raised- quantitative losses and despatches- details of despatches of raised nursery stock incl. date, class of stock, number and districtFile numbers were sometimes recorded on the cards and it is probable that more details were captured on General Correspondence Files, Annual Single Number System (VPRS 11563).
