资源简介:
Human populations in Africa are the most genetically diverse in the world, having a rich history, and yet are severely understudied. The purpose of this study is to understand the population history of four ethnolinguistic groups in northern Kenya - the Turkana, Samburu, Rendille, and Borana. This study aims to measure the extent of variation among several genetic systems in these populations, with the goal to better understand the broader population history in northern Kenya and to add to the current knowledge of population genetics in Africa.]]> The territories and clans were chosen because they have a population size that would allow obtaining the needed sample size within each territory or clan. Within each territory or clan, a subset of villages were chosen for sampling. The villages were chosen based on accessibility by road in a four-wheel drive vehicle and safety for the researchers to camp in. Within the village, the data collectors will go house to house and interview individuals that we have identified as being populous clans within these areas. Both male and female participants were recruited for all the studies. Pregnant women were included. Adults who were unable to consent, minors and prisoners were excluded. ]]> None, this is the first time this project has occurred. This is extending a long-term collaborative initiative with working with the these groups. ]]>
