5 images. Malibu suicide attempt, 24 July 1958. Tried to commit suicide, ran car into drug store at 22407 Carbon Mesa Road. Drug store wrecked and burned. Mrs. Patricia Simmons (Operated Drug Store); James S. McDonald (suspect); Robert Gonzales; Tony Mancera; Bill Bonachea; Wrecked car, etc.; Caption slip reads: "Photographer: James Brezina. Date: 07-24. Assignment: Car crash -- Malibu Drug Store. Negs. 5-6-7-8: James S. McDonald, 39, at Malibu Sheriff's Station, eating breakfast telling of the crash, examining hands for injuries. Suffered only minor scratches on side of face. Neg. 9 and 10: Volunteers push McDonald's burned car from the drug store and coffee shop. Negs. 11-12-14: Mrs. Patricia Simmons, holds up remains of purse, saying: To think one man could have caused all of this!. Damage to drug store was estimated at $75,000. (Stock was valued at $45,000). Mrs. Simmons and husband Richard operated drugstore".
