The Rape of Hastings Architectural Survey (RoHAS)

The Rape of Hastings Architectural Survey was a project that ran for over 40 years researching the domestic built heritage within the historic Rape of Hastings. This area is representative of the historical houses that survive over a large part of the counties of Kent and East and West Sussex. Collectively these houses, along with the surviving historic farm buildings of the region form a nationally important concentration and make an important contribution to the area's distinctive character. The reports within this archive result from the surveys of individual buildings carried out by the team, initially David and Barbara Martin working independently as RoHAS and later by the Martins and others working within Archaeology South-East, part of the UCL Institute of Archaeology.
