The Avena barbata population in California is composed of two ecotypes: the mesic ecotype and the xeric ecotype. These are associated with, respectively, moist and dry habitats. The objectives of this project are 1) generate a large amount of cDNA data that could be the basis for transcriptomic studies, 2) to identify the genes differentially expressed in leaves under changing water availability, and 3) to identify genes that may be involved in root-soil interactions.
