Apple rust is a serious fungal disease of Malus plants worldwide. Under rust stress, the accumulation of anthocyanins in Malus is induced, which limits the expansion of rust and exhibits resistance to rust. However, the mechanism of anthocyanin biosynthesis regulation in Malus under rust stress is unclear.Transcriptomics, transient and stable transformation of Malus, yeast 1/2-hybrid and dual-luciferase reporter assays methods were used to address this question.
