Three-dimensional fruit growth analysis of diverse persimmon

Cultivated oriental persimmon (Diospyros kaki Thunb.) shows unique genetic variations in fruit development and shape. Some cultivars develop vertical and horizontal grooves (Mizo and Za in Japanese) in the lateral side and calyx end of the fruit, respectively. We characterized the developmental mechanism of vertical groove formation by using high-resolution 3D scanning and a transcriptome approach.
