This repository contains experimental data used for model parametrisation, as well as the experimental and simulation data used for model validation of the work presented in: Discrete element modelling and experimental validation of brittle particle comminution Authors:Dasun Attanayake, Florian Würpel, Manja Krüger, Berend van Wachem Dataset Structure The PDF file included in the main directory contains the results of an in-house density assessment conducted on the 4ABFK zeolite particles used for both model parameterisation and validation in this study. In addition, the dataset contains four main folders. A detailed description of each folder's contents and their purpose is provided below. breakage-probability:- This folder contains data used for model parameterisation.- The subfolder experimental-results contains data from single-particle uniaxial compression tests.- The data are organized according to the particle size range of each batch.- The data from columns "Elongation" and "Force" in each .csv file is used to calculate the energy absorbed by a particle up to the point of breakage.- These results were used to generate characteristic distributions of initial fracture energy of zeolite particles as a function of particle size.- The Python script visualizedata.py provides a preliminary visualisation of the breakage probability curves for each size range. damage-parameter:- This folder contains data used for model parameterisation.- The subfolder experimental-results contains data from single-particle repeated impact (drop-weight) tests.- For two particle size classes, the .csv files report the number of impacts required per particle to cause its breakage.- These results were used to generate cumulative breakage probability curves as a function of the number of impacts and to derive an appropriate damage coefficient for the zeolite particles.- The Python script visualizedata.py provides a preliminary visualisation of the evolution of breakage probability with the number of impacts for the two particle size classes examined using the drop-weight method. progeny-size:- This folder contains data used for model parameterisation.- The subfolder experimental-results contains data relevant to fragment size distributions resulting from four comminution experiments, each conducted at a different impact energy.- The .csv files report the mass of fragments collected on each sieve size.- These results were used to derive parameters describing breakage index (t_10) and the other t_n values that characterise the fragment size distribution of a fragmentation event.- The Python script visualizedata.py plots the fragment size distributions in terms of t_n values at different tested impact energies. validation:- This folder contains data used for model validation.- The subfolder experimental-results contains data relevant to fragment size distributions obtained from four ball milling experiments of zeolite particles.- The .csv file in this subfolder reports, precisely, the mass of fragments collected on each sieve size in each experimental run.- The subfolder simulation-results contains the .csv file reporting the cumulative particle size distributions obtained from three simulations of the milling process.- The Python script visualizedata.py processes these data and plots particle size distributions from both the experiments and the simulations.
