Punica granatum Variation

In this work we reconstructed a transcriptome from two phenotypically different accessions using 454-GS-FLX Titanium technology. This data was used to explore the functional annotation of 45,187 fully annotated contigs. Furthermore, we compiled a genetic variation resource of SSRs and SNPs. A sample of 480 SNPs was used to interrogate the genetic structure of ARO broad germplasm genetic structure, which includes accessions from different geographical areas in the world. These SNPs can successfully classify the ARO pomegranate collection into two major groups. One group of accessions from Central-South Asia and Indians is mostly composed of one subpopulation and is more admixture than the other major group which is composed of mostly domesticated origin pomegranates accessions.
