Project Description: NEC developed a Video Analytics implementation for traffic intersections using 5G technology. This implementation included both hardware infrastructure and software applications supporting 5G communications, which allows low latency and secure communications. VTTI worked with NEC to facilitate the usage of a 3400-3500 MHz Program Experimental License (PEL) license band without SAS integration to successfully implement a private 5G deployment at the VTTI Smart Road intersection and Data Center. Specific use cases were developed to provide alerting mechanisms to both pedestrians and vehicles using C-V2X/PC5 technology when approaching a traffic intersection and a dangerous situation is detected. VTTI Team collected multiple scenario data at Virginia Tech Transportation Institute’s Smart Road intersection. Each scenario involves road users such as: pedestrian, motorcycle, bicycle, and vehicles doing normal maneuvers around the intersection and in some cases executing maneuvers that can generate alerts by the Private 5G Video Analytics system. Data Scope: VTTI team collected six use case scenarios on a Wireshark trace (pcap format). Each use case scenario data contains around 3K data entries for object detection around the intersection and the proper use case scenario identification. Object identification is being done from each sensor (camera) with XYZ coordinates.
