VPRS 18638 Card Index to Registrars of Births and Deaths

This is a series of index cards of Registrars of Births and Deaths. The earliest entry appears to be 1854 and the latest entry appears to be 1956. This series was created to record the names of registrars in registration districts and details of when they were in office. Also, when offices were in operation.Each card records the name of the registration district, the name of the registrars, date of appointment, dates of resignation and gazette details. Details of closure of offices with government gazette date and details of where the books were transferred to.At the beginning of the index are cards, mainly undated (those are dated are 1884 to 1916) which contains statistics about the work of the registrars- such as time spent on searches, issue of certificates, number of births, deaths and marriages registered, number and size of registration districts, space occupied by indexes, and time spent on indexing.
