Summer weed control herbicide trial and demonstration data from Mid and Upper North South Australia 2024 to 2025

This dataset contains field trial, demonstration, crop, weed and site observation data collected to assess residual herbicide options for summer weed control in low rainfall grain production systems in the Mid and Upper North regions of South Australia. Data were collected during the 2024/25 summer fallow period and the 2025 cropping season from two replicated trial sites at Baroota and Balaklava and one demonstration site at Melrose.

The dataset includes site information, herbicide treatments, application dates, treatment presence by site, active ingredients and herbicide groups. It also includes weed density counts before and after treatment, crop plant counts, crop growth stage observations, visual phytotoxicity observations, crop and site notes, harvest status, and supporting site photographs. Weed count methods included quadrat counts and whole-plot counts, depending on site and assessment date. Crop plant counts were collected from short row sections, with count length varying by site.

Interpretation should consider the dry seasonal conditions, uneven crop establishment, low or variable weed germination, herbicide residue concerns, and site-specific management issues recorded in the workbook. These factors affected data completeness and the ability to compare treatment performance across all sites.
