Leaf rust caused by Puccinia triticina (Pt) is one of the most important diseases of bread wheat globally. Next generation sequencing technologies has made feasible the study of the complete transcriptome of the host as well as pathogen through RNA sequencing (RNAseq) allowing expression analysis of the host genes in response to pathogen attack. Differential expression in a near isogenic line carrying leaf rust resistance gene Lr57 and recipient genotype upon challenge with the Pt isolate 77-5 is being reported in the present study. RNA samples were collected at five different time points 0, 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours post inoculation (HPI) following inoculation with Pt 77-5.
