To identify target genes involved in heart regeneration in adult X. tropicalis, we collected the resected ventricles at 0.5 to 60 dpr and performed RNA-seq. We identified 499 upregulated (including proliferative genes and MAPK pathway-related genes) and 111 downregulated (including oxidative phosphorylation-related genes) genes at 0.5 dpr compared with sham, respectively. The expression profile of the most changed genes at 0.5 dpr gradually normalized during the progression of regeneration. There was extensive overlap between the upregulated genes at 0.5 dpr versus sham and the downregulated genes at 60 dpr versus 0.5 dpr.
