Brown rot inflicts serious losses on stone and pome fruit crops worldwide. In China, Monilinia fructicola, M. yunnanensis, and M. mumecola are major causal agents. For the systematic study of brown rot fungi, we sequenced and assembled the genomes of M. yunnanensis and M. mumecola, conducting comparative genomics with other Monilinia species. The goal of this study was to understand the species differentiation process and outcome of pathogens causing brown rot of pome and stone fruits. The genomes of M. mumecola and M. yunnanensis were de-novo assembled and a comprehensive and systematic analysis of brown rot pathogens was conducted.
