The Lichess Puzzles dataset contains 5,600,086 chess puzzles, each rated and tagged. The dataset is updated monthly, with the last update on December 17th, 2025. Generating the initial dataset took over 50 years of CPU time, analyzing 300,000,000 games from the Lichess database and re-analyzing interesting positions with Stockfish 12/13/14/15 NNUE at 40 meganodes. The puzzles were automatically tagged, and their ratings were determined using the Glicko-2 system. Player votes further refined the tags and defined popularity.
